Big blow to VOIP E911
March 23, 2006 – 5:58 pmPeople are already skeptical of ditching their land lines and moving to VOIP because of 911. And this certainly doesn’t help. Vonage Puts VoIP 911 Caller on Hold, House Burns Down
“I called 911 using Vonage broadband and they put us on hold,” Veltkamp said when he was interviewed by ABC channel 5 Eyewitness News Minneapolis/St. Paul. “Unbelievable, your house is burning down, and you’re put on hold by Vonage.”
By the time fire crews arrived, the fire had become a five-alarm blaze. The house was a total loss, but no one was injured.
I know this could probably of happened with regular 911, but I do think this will set back Vonage and other VOIP providers. Not to mention this guy will probably sue Vonage and win.
