How to destroy your data!

Don’t let people steal your identity! I did a little write up on how to wipe all the data off your hard disks before selling/tossing them. Hope it helps somebody out there!

  2. I saw a link to your article posted in the computer section of my local Craigslist. I will have to try this one out. Nice job!

  4. The ‘only’ safe really is to detroy the harddrive itself. You should advocate not to include the harddrive when they sell the system.

  5. While I can’t disagree that destroying the drive is the absolute safest method, it’s a waste for 99% of the people out there. If you have top secret info on your drives, sure destroy it. But if it’s personal info and the like, no one is going to spend the hundreds of man hours to try to recover it.

  6. Most people are clueless. This advice may do more harm than good, especially for people with hidden restore partitions.

The nuke disc will wipe that out. If the user has not backed up the partition to Cd/DVD, then he/she is screwed.

  8. For the average user, brilliant. If you are the FBI or the CIA your department probably has specially made HD shredders. They may use a program like this before shredding it into tiny little metal pieces though.
