Gaming appearing recession proof as Wii, DS dominate sales
April 18, 2008 – 1:58 pmGaming appears recession proof? It’s not hard to believe because if you look at the price per hour entertainment value it makes sense. You can spend $40-$60 for a game you can play for 70+ hours which makes it very cheap entertainment. Think about going out to the movies… you’ll easily drop $20 by seeing a movie with a soda and popcorn and it’s typical maybe 90 minutes of entertainment.
Gas prices are up and consumer confidence is down, which apparently means that Americans are looking to gaming to save them from their woes. Console sales are up 27 percent year to date, according to the latest figures released by NPD Group, and sales are also up across the board compared to March 2007, with the exception of the venerable PlayStation 2. Let’s take a look at who made the biggest moves this month. Spoiler warning: Nintendo continues to rule the US with an iron fist.
